Tenerife
I spent about 8 months living together with “Mici” and “Ejo” as three musketeers. Even thought, each one of us were totally different we somehow made it happened. Mici was working in local Finish bar, Ejo was selling time share hotel apartments to British tourists and myself I was programming software (mainly B2B portals for German clients) as freelance developer.
Tenerife is very nice place to stay, enjoy sun beaches, incredible weather and relaxing sunset after you spend 10 hours developing software. I spent all my time in “Playa de la Americas” and “Los Christianos” and the only complain I can make that there wasn’t any possibility to get some cultural enjoyment. You need to travel to “Santa Cruz” just to see a movie in a cinema. But back then, bars, sun and a lot of friends was enough, so well done.
Whenever we had time and money we traveled and these are some recommendations:
- Teide – It’s volcano in the middle of the island and in 3 attempts we never went up as there was always a bad weather which stopped the cable car operation. But still the view from the bottom station is very nice, too.
- San Cristobal – Eastern part of the island around San Cristobal is fantastic. Just rent a car and explore it for 2-3 days and you will not regret it. Very shallow slopes with amazing views and welcoming nature will await you.
- Masca – This is a canyon in western part of the island where you can spend a nice day walking and swimming. Just park your car in about 1000 meters above sea level and walk your way through canyon to the beach with black sand. Then you can walk back up (be ready for some workout) or take a boat which will get you back to Las Americas.
La Palma
I spent about 2 weeks on La Palma in Slovak community living there in caves. Guys get EU funding in order to explore ways how to live in caves. When I arrived there I got my personal cave which was about 3 by 3 meters with one blanket covering the entrance and one mattress. But still, living with this kind of community was an amazing experience.
In La Palma you can visit beaches but as it faces ocean be aware of big waves and chilling water 🙂 The island is famous for having very clear sky and very little light pollution therefore, there are lot of observatories that you can visit or just enjoy view from the top of the island.
